my empire of dirt
Jan. 11th, 2004 02:39 pmjohnny cash's cover of "hurt" continues to be brilliant, and becomes even more haunting each time i listen to it. this would probably make my list of top five covers.
i've been rather productive in the last twenty-four hours or so. forced myself out of the house last night and made an appearance at the sweaty slutty party that was going on in sevy tea room. ran into a fair number of people i knew, most of whom it seemed were as baffled as i was by it. probably needless to say, i didn't stick around very long. came home and forced myself to sleep so that i could wake up for accidentals auditions this morning, and then actually woke up, went and managed to sing decently. part of me says they have to take me back because they have to and part of me is still nervous about it. so with my somewhat nervous energy i came home, sorted out all of the laundry that's been trying to take over the apartment (washing will happen soon), took out trash, and generally tidied up. the dishes are another sort of beast however and so they remain. but! you can actually see the floor for the first time in way too long, and that's a good thing. now for burritos and hopefully lots of work. because i need to do the work, no questions about it. also, i'm making an attempt at listening to some of the newer stuff on my computer that i haven't paid enough attention to since acquiring it including: johnny cash, the violet burning, the thrills, tanya donelly, starsailor, michelle shocked, mary lou lord, lizzie west, jet, and heatmiser. so we'll see. if anyone has any really good bands they think i should try out, let me know. especially anything folky or singer-songwriters since that's my focus for the next few months.
starting today i'm also trying to leave the tv off for the most part. i got far too addicted to cable over break and it can't continue. so. i can tape whatever i want, but i'm going to set a limit on how much i'm actually allowed to watch. okay, i'm babbling. forgive me. off to try and work.
