a little behind the times, but it merits a moment in my world none the less.

cy coleman died thursday from heart failure at age 75.

for those of you who don't automatically know who i'm talking about, he was an amazing jazz pianist and brilliant musical theatre composer. he's responsible for one of my favorite musicals, "city of angels", not to mention songs like "big spender" and "witchcraft."

really, with everything he was still working on and involved in, it's a shame to see him go.

cy, you made my world a better place. here's to you.

The ironic thing is that for the last two weeks I have had City of Angels and Barnum on heavy rotation in my digital music player.

The shelf full of unfinished projects he leaves behind really is a shame.

If there is a piano bar in the afterlife, I hope that Coleman and Ebb get to do some amazing collaborations.
