my computer works again. turns out it wasn't the monitor that died, it was my cmos battery. (which has also been threatening me for quite some time.)
when i hooked up a new monitor and got the same problem... well. with so much work left to do before Tuesday i was slightly hysterical.
called my dad to ask what else it could be, and wonderful loving father that he is, he got in the car and drove down in the snow to help me figure it out.
end result: finally, my computer works again.
downside: my dad was here less than an hour and in that time found out about:
a) my cat, who i've kept secret for nearly a year and a half
b) my tattoo, which (even though i lived at home for five months after i got it) i've had for two years without my family knowing.
i think his overall end response was, well i suppose you're an adult now.
but he obviously thinks i'm crazy if not stupid as well because of these.
knew it would happen eventually, but still. why all in one night?
