obsession.
Nov. 23rd, 2003 05:22 amin my perfect world, it would be deemed acceptable to eat an avocado the same way you'd eat other fruit... oranges, apples, bananas. in bites. i just cut my avocado in half, pitted it, peeled back the skin, and ate half of it in bites. go ahead and tell me how i shouldn't and it isn't healthy, but for me it is. on some level if not many. last year when i was going through my bout of anxiety the counselor i was working with spent part of a session talking about how food helps and hurts us and how for certain people there are foods that will help and hurt more than others. she wasn't talking about diet in terms of weight or overall healthiness, she was talking about it in terms of chemical balance and how we function. due to lack of time she didn't specifically do whatever testing it is that results in this profile for me, but she compared me to one she'd done for someone else with similar factors. on the list of things best for me? avocados, tofu, and starchy things like potatoes. i had to laugh, seeing as how after being introduced to avocados at the age of 21 (and wondering how i'd ever existed without them) i've developed a serious addiction. she chalked it up in part to my body recognizing what was good for it. who knows if all of that holds any weight at all, but i'll take it as an excuse to support my addiction. plus, be it mental or physical or chemical, i feel better after eating that avocado than i have in days.
having just found this site, i am so totally growing my own avocado tree. avocado farm, here i come.

Avocado Council of California
Date: 2003-11-23 02:39 pm (UTC)I've always found it vaguely unusual that there is at all an Avocado council. It's like finding out there's an Avocado Mafia or something.
One random thought- the best indoor avocado you coudl find would be some kind of non-hybrid plant. That last line of the instructions says not to expect your tree ot bear fruit because "commercial avocados require grafting". Maybe you could get an avocado from another country or something that does produce lots of avocados. In nature all avocado trees produce enough avocados to have another generation- that's Darwinism. ; -)
PS- Bit into them like they were an apple for all I care. ; -)
