my poor baby computer

hard drive is still acting scary. actually, it's sounding worse. here's what i posted to the mac conference over on caucus, just in case anyone here has any ideas as to what's up. if i'm not online much, it's because i'm scared and paranoid and worried for my baby computer.
i have a 12" powerbook running 10.3.2 and it sounds like the hard drive is acting up. help?
at some point yesterday my hard drive started behaving oddly. spinning and spinning for no apparent reason, i.e. even with no applications running. it kept this up on and off for most of the day, but after restarting multiple times finally seemed to stop misbehaving last night. this afternoon it started doing the same thing on and off, the hard drive spinning and spinning with minimal applications running, or even none. a couple of hours ago it started making noises it shouldn't be, louder than usual whirrings, clickings, and even vrrooms once or twice. at that point i shut it down, pulled out my apple care package (which, flake that i am i forgot to send the registration in for) and ran tech tool deluxe. everything came up clean, and the only help i can offer is that it seemed to make more of the awful noises while checking ram and running surface scan. the only recent changes to the system that i can think of are the most recent software updates from apple.
i'm hesitant to do too much browsing through apple's online help because it means making the computer work, and i'm paranoid. does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be and/or where i should start trying to find a solution? calling applecare even though i'm not registered, taking it in to one of the stores, braving the website, or just wait and see? i only got it in june and i'm obviously over-protective of it... i just don't want to take chances.

I hope that's all yours is doing. Mine is doing pretty well if you ignore the fact that the battery thinks it's dead at 83%. Oh Genius Bar, you will be seeing me soon.
