''The Singing Detective,'' described by [director Keith] Gordon as ''your basic comedy-drama surrealist 1950's lip-synching rock 'n' roll musical absurdist expressionist film-noir pastiche naturalist character study."

i must see this. must. no more school now thankyouverymuch.

It was ok. That description basically sums it up (except Gordon forgot "anachronistic to the 1950s gratuitous sex scenes" part)

Basically David Lynch-light. But with known actors, so will probably be a bigger success. Once you've seen it, I want to discuss then ending with you.

on a mostly unrelated but still slightly related note.

do you know the musical city of angels? (completely unrelated to the movie of same name.)

because that's what this initially makes me think of. the whole writer/detective dual reality bit. if you don't know the show, check it out. it's one of my favorites. lovely lovely.

You. are. so. jealous

Your feeble hack record

A brilliant show. One of the best Act I finale male duets. Chills every time I listen to "Your Nothing Without Me"... unfortunately, I think the show as a whole kind of peters out at the end for the Act II finale.

Also, because of this show, I can never look at tennis the same way again...
